One Bag, Three Ways to Carry It

A duffel backpack that carries as a backpack, by its grab handles, or as a shoulder duffel, with nothing hanging loose.

Most travel days ask for two bags. A backpack for the long walk through the terminal, and a duffel for the overhead bin, the trunk, and the hotel lobby. A duffel backpack does both jobs, as long as the straps get out of the way when you switch.

The CARGO 48L carries three ways. As a backpack, by its four grab handles, or as a shoulder duffel with the backpack straps stowed out of sight. The video shows all three in 41 seconds. Tap any step to jump straight to it.

Three carry modes, step by step

Section 01

Backpack vs Duffel Bag

A backpack spreads the load across both shoulders and leaves your hands free, which is what you want for distance. A duffel loads wide, slides into an overhead bin or a trunk, and comes off fast, which is what you want at every handoff.

A duffel bag with backpack straps usually gets one of those wrong. The straps dangle in duffel mode and snag on everything. A convertible travel bag only earns the name when each mode is clean. That means no loose straps, a handle wherever your hand lands, and a shoulder strap that goes on in seconds.

Section 02

Three Ways to Carry It

1Backpack
Wear it on both padded shoulder straps and clip the sternum strap across your chest. This is the mode for distance, from the parking garage to the gate. When you arrive, unbuckle the sternum strap and slip it off.
2Grab Handles
Four grab handles, on the top, both sides, and bottom. Set it on a table and pick it up by the top handle, or grab whichever handle faces you when the bag is wedged in a trunk or an overhead bin. Quick transitions, no straps involved.
3Shoulder Duffel
The backpack straps stow fully in the rear panel zip pocket, so nothing hangs loose on an overhead bin or a cab door. Take the shoulder strap out of its pocket, clip it to both ends, and sling the bag over your shoulder.

Section 03

Built for Travel Days

The back panel sleeve fits over any roller bag handle, so the CARGO rides on your suitcase through the terminal and comes off as a backpack at the curb. The main compartment opens on a full clamshell zip and packs flat like a suitcase. A 17 inch laptop sleeve sits behind it, and an RF and NFC shielded pocket holds a passport, key fob, and access cards.

The shell is 1680D ballistic polyester, PU backed, and water resistant, with MOLLE webbing inside and out. It is built like gear and carries like luggage.

Common Questions

Can a backpack double as a duffel bag?

Yes, when the shoulder straps can get out of the way. On the CARGO they stow fully in the rear panel zip pocket, and a single shoulder strap clips to both ends, so it carries like a duffel with nothing hanging loose.

Where do the shoulder straps go in duffel mode?

Into the rear panel zip pocket. Both straps stow fully, so no strap catches on an overhead bin or a cab door.

Does it fit over a suitcase handle?

Yes. The back panel sleeve fits over any roller bag handle, so the CARGO rides on top of your suitcase through the terminal.

How big is the CARGO?

48L, at 21 in tall, 13.625 in wide, and 12.25 in deep. It weighs 5.2 lbs empty.
