What level of ballistic protection does the backpack offer?
The CARGO Series offers fully customizable protection levels. Without inserts, it functions as a rugged civilian backpack. Install the Aramid panel for NIJ Level IIIA protection. Add the rifle armor plate insert for Level III+ rifle threat defense, or upgrade to a Level IV armor-piercing plate for maximum stopping power.
Is the Silent Valor CARGO Series backpack NIJ certified?
While the backpack itself is not NIJ certified, our ballistic components are independently tested to meet NIJ performance standards for their respective protection levels. This includes Level IIIA-rated Kevlar and optional Level III+ plate inserts. Our testing follows the same protocols used by the National Institute of Justice to ensure reliable ballistic performance.
What is Aramid?
Aramid is a high-strength synthetic fiber known for its exceptional durability, heat resistance, and impact resilience. Commonly used in aerospace, military, and safety applications, Aramid offers lightweight protection without sacrificing flexibility.
What size plate insert does the backpack support?
The adjustable internal plate slot is designed to fit 10x12” standard armor plates, including multi-curve shooters cut plates. Coming soon.
Is the backpack TSA-approved or carry-on compliant?
Yes. There are no federal laws against bringing body armor or aramid inserts onto a U.S. commercial flight in your carry-on or checked baggage. However, we recommend checking local and state regulations before traveling, as some jurisdictions have restrictions on body armor possession.
The CARGO Series measures 24" x 13" x 12", which exceeds the standard carry-on height limit of 22" for many U.S. airlines. While some carriers may still allow it in overhead bins—especially if not fully packed—others may require it to be checked. Always review your airline’s carry-on size policy before travel.
Can civilians legally purchase this backpack?
Absolutely. The backpack and inserts are legal for civilian purchase in most states. However, some states and jurisdictions restrict armor plate ownership—please check your local laws.
What is the RF shielding pocket used for?
The RF (radio frequency) shielding pocket blocks signals to protect sensitive items such as phones, laptops, key fobs, IDs, and external drives from tracking, hacking, or signal interference.
Is the side-carry sling inclusive for duffle bag mode?
Yes. Simply stow the shoulder straps and attach the included side-carry sling to convert the pack into duffle mode.
Is the backpack waterproof?
The CARGO Series is built with waterproof outer materials and sealed zippers to resist rain and harsh conditions. However, we recommend using dry bags for electronics during prolonged submersion or severe weather.
What is the warranty on the backpack?
All Silent Valor backpacks come with a 5-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects. Ballistic panels may carry a separate warranty—see product page for details.
